Wendy McClatchy says of her art: Vincent Van Gogh once said, ”Painting is a faith not created by hands alone, but by something which wells up from a deeper source in our souls. “For as long as I can remember, I have had an exhaustible passion for the creative process: my own as well as others. I earned my BA in a double major of Studio Art/Art History, from Hollins University in Roanoke, Va. I was awarded MCAT from Hahnemann University, and practiced in several area Psychiatric institutions. My expertise was diagnosis with children and adults.
After the birth of my son, I began to concentrate on my own artwork. Along with a partner, I started a business called,” Decorative Affairs.” We pioneered special effects painting: wall glazing, marbling, Faux Bois, and Trompe L'oeil in the Philadelphia area. My work was featured on the cover of House Beautiful magazine, as well as in the Vassar Show House for four years. I worked with prominent interior designers and architects from New York to Atlanta.
The last several years have been stimulating and rewarding, as I now cultivate my own painting practice within the confines of a frame. I am drawn to still life, landscape, and seascape. I always paint with the intention to capture specific qualities of my subject matter that draw me to share my emotional responses with the viewer. Pastels allow me to explore light, color, and texture of my subject matter.
