Greg Bennett studied at the York Academy of Arts in York, Pennsylvania and apprenticed with John Terelak of the Gloucester Academy of Fine Arts in Gloucester Massachusetts. The New Jersey barrier island where he grew up and still lives, continues to be an inspiration for many of his works. He remains absorbed in the beauty and fascinated by the details of the Atlantic beaches, back bays and wetlands that are the subject of most of his paintings.
Greg has chosen the mediums of Oil, Watercolor and Pencil to execute the images of the sea, land or figurative composition. Each subject dictates what medium would be considered for the painting, Greg often determines this when he first encounters a subject that inspires him. The pencil is a favorite because Greg feels that it shows the bare bones of the artists' talent. Paintings are also often done "en plein air" in just a few hours or after several return visits to a particular location. Using this method, an artist can more accurately record the effects of the light and color of a scene. Greg's painting style is influenced by the American Impressionists painters of the late 19th and early 20th century.
