Valerie Craig is a self-taught artist, with more than twenty years in the field to date. Her oil and watercolor paintings are suffused with soft light and convey a sensitive approach. Her in-depth study has been enhanced by workshops with noted artists John Budicin and Kenn Backhaus and she continues to be a student of art, always reaching for a higher level of excellence. Since leaving her lengthy career in nursing administration, she has devoted more time to her life-long passion for painting and her love of the outdoors. She feels that her best expressions happen when she is on location, painting quickly and capturing the essence of a subject or the mood of a time and place. She paints en plein air whenever she can but often completes larger canvases in her studio. Craig's well rounded subject matter includes still-life, landscape and street scenes but she feels her best work reflects her connection to the local Pennsylvania countryside and the rural farms and beaches found in southern New Jersey. She is well traveled in Europe and the United States, always seeking inspiration and opportunities to paint in the field.
