Carol Magnatta Currently I appear to be multitasking in my approach to creating art. My work moves from watercolor to oil painting, with occasional drawing thrown into the mix to ground me.
When I paint the human form, which I prefer to paint from life, I attempt to capture the quirks inherent in each model’s appearance, something beyond just a likeness. I seek the hidden wink in each personality.
Landscape painting on site is freeing and and I can let my mood swing with the subject. Capturing the moment and the light is exciting.
Watercolor painting is laden with mystery. The medium causes one to pause and reflect on issues of control and spontaneity. In contrast, painting in oil is astounding. There is freedom in the application along with the ability to make significant revisions. The interplay between these two mediums keeps my work moving forward.
Finding a visual statement in a variety of subjects is exciting. I am consistently searching. The human condition, or at the very least the reality of my own perspective is revealed in every work.
